La gestión municipal y la seguridad ciudadana han sido objeto de múltiples estudios en América Latina; sin embargo, su articulación efectiva continúa siendo un ámbito de investigación prioritaria. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo examinar y condensar la evidencia empírica contemporánea en torno a la interrelación entre la gestión municipal y la seguridad ciudadana, con un enfoque específico en América Latina. Para ello, se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática siguiendo el protocolo PRISMA, utilizando las bases de datos Scopus, Scielo, ERIC, Web of Science y otros. Se identificaron 122 documentos, de los cuales se seleccionaron 22 investigaciones desarrolladas principalmente en Perú, México, Colombia, Chile, Brasil, Estados Unidos, Corea del Sur, Escocia y Costa Rica. El análisis evidenció que una gestión municipal eficiente influye positivamente en la seguridad ciudadana, mediante estrategias como la participación vecinal, la vigilancia comunitaria, la planificación territorial y la articulación intergubernamental. En conclusión, una gestión municipal reforzada contribuye de manera positiva a la optimización de la seguridad ciudadana.
Municipal management and citizen security have been the subject of numerous studies in Latin America; however, their effective integration remains a priority area of research. This study aimed to examine and synthesize contemporary empirical evidence on the interrelationship between municipal management and citizen security, with a specific focus on Latin America. To this end, a systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol, using the Scopus, SciELO, ERIC, Web of Science, and other databases. One hundred and twenty-two documents were identified, from which 22 studies were selected, primarily from Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, the United States, South Korea, Scotland, and Costa Rica. The analysis showed that efficient municipal management positively influences citizen security through strategies such as neighborhood participation, community policing, territorial planning, and intergovernmental coordination. In conclusion, strengthened municipal management contributes positively to optimizing citizen security.
