Efficiency and effectiveness of public spending in regional governments: analysis based on a literature reviewContenido principal del artículo
This study aims to analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of public spending in regional governments through a systematic literature review. Using the PRISMA methodology, eight relevant articles published between 2019 and 2023 were selected exclusively from the Scopus database. The reviewed studies cover various sectors such as health, education, environment, and disaster management, emphasizing the importance of fiscal transparency, the integration of advanced technologies, and strategic resource allocation. The results reveal that proper management of public spending promotes citizen trust, enhances social well-being, and strengthens community resilience. However, challenges such as corruption, technological limitations, and the lack of long-term strategies in interregional contexts are identified. The need to adopt audit tools, strengthen transparency mechanisms, and prioritize investments in key sectors is emphasized. This analysis provides practical recommendations to optimize the use of public resources and promote responsible and sustainable management in regional governments.
